The flight into Bhutan takes you close to the great Himalayas, offering dazzling scenic views of some world’s highest glacial peaks. As you enter Paro valley, you will sweep past forested hills with the silvery Pa Chu (Paro river) meandering down the valley below. Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watchtower) on the hills above the town will be a fine sight.
We then transfer to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, passing through hills and some astounding countryside for 1 to 2 hrs. Later check in hotel in Thimphu.
Drive to visit Kuensel Phodrang to visit the Buddha Statue, 169ft, symbolizing indestructibility and one of the most religious monuments built in recent times. The view of Thimphu valley from the Kuenselphodrang is spectacular. We then visit the National Memorial Chorten: Built in honor of third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Elderly devotees flock throughout the day to circumambulate and turn the prayer wheels. Visit CSI market, a marketplace where you get all products made in Bhutan.
Drive to visit Takin Enclosure to see the National Animal of Bhutan. Visit the Art and Craft Institute, a vocational training Institute for students learning some of the 13 arts, preserving and producing skilled man power. After that Lunch at one of the local restaurant in Thimphu. Afternoon we visit the Royal Textile Museum “living art of Bhutan” which houses old Bhutanese Textiles and artifacts from the various regions and tribes of Bhutan. Take a short trip Tashicho Dzong, the fortress of glorious religion,” seat of the national government and the central monk body.
Sightseeing of Thimphu city including the visitation of National library, painting school and traditional medicine institute.
After lunch, steer away towards the old capital of Bhutan, Punakha through Dochula pass that provides an enchanting view with 108 chortens. Upon arriving, check into the hotel and take a break. In the evening, take a tour to the 17th century fortress Punakha Dzong and then to KhamsumYulleyNamgyel chorten. Hold a night at the hotel in Punakha.
After breakfast, take a journey to Gangtey through Wangduephodrang. Tour the magnificent Wangdue Dzong and explore the town’s local market. Passing through dense forest of Oak and rhododendron trees lies Gangtey(Phobjikha).
Go for a stroll around beautiful Gangtey village and pay a visit to Gangtey Gompa that is believed to be the only Nyingmapa monastery. Spend a night at camp or guest house.
In the morning, explore the Phobjikha Valley, famous for its black cranes on your vacation to Bhutan. These cranes migrated here from the Central Asian plateau, fleeing the harsh winter.
After lunch, drive across the 3,300-meter-high Pelela Pass to Trongsa and visit the market in the evening. Hold a night at a hotel in Trongsa.
In the prime of day, visit Trongsa Dzong- largest masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture along with Ta Dzong built by 3rd Druk Desi to safeguard the dzong and its surrounding.
After lunch, continue the journey on to Bumthang, the heartland of a religious site. Have dinner and spend the night at a hotel.
Bumthang is a common name for four valleys such as Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura with an altitude ranging from 2600m to 4000m. It houses many eminent Buddhist temples and monasteries. Get to see Tamshing Lhakhang which is known as a treasure house of fascinating Buddhist religious paintings.
After that, take a safari to Jakar Dzong where all the administrative work is done. After lunchtime, visit Kurjelhakhang, one of the holy and sacred sites in Bumthang. Next, include a trip to Jambay Lhakhang in your trip plan, an ancient temple built during the spread of Buddhism in the country. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang.
The journey continues to the east, over rugged terrain. The journey to enjoy the magnificent scenery takes about 7 hours. Drive through the village of Ura in Bumthang before climbing the Thrumshingla Pass (4,000 meters), the highest road in the kingdom.
Go to Sengor to see the waterfalls along the way. The descent to 700 m ends on the bridge on Kurichu. Climb the pine forest, cornfields and eastern villages again to reach the city of Mongar. Visit Mongar Dzong, this is a very new building that still retains the old architectural traditions. Check into the hotel in Mongar.
This journey of 96km takes 3 hours crossing Korila Pass, is characterized by a beautiful chorten and a stone wall passing through a lush forest full of ferns. Then, the road goes down quickly, entering corn fields and banana trees to reach the famous zigzag of Yadi (new settlement). Follow the Gamri River that leads to Dametsi. This is a place where a temple alighted on top of the steep hill founded by ChetenZangmo is considered as a most important monastery in eastern part.
A famous Naga chham originated from this region. About 30 km further lies Trashigang, the largest and most populous district in the country and serves as the administrative center for the region. A part of the dzong is a space for the Drukpa Monastery community. Spent a night at a hotel in Trashigang.
Go for a quick tour to Trashiyangtse to see the Gom Kora temple set on a small alluvial plateau overlooking the river. Guru Rinpoche subdued a demon in this very place. Then arrive at Dosum Village, where you can see busy women weaving traditional Bhutanese products and witness a chain bridge of the 15th century.
Visit Trashiyangtse Dzong at an altitude of 1850 meters. Trashiyangtse used to be an important center because it is located on one of the sculpture routes from the west to central Bhutan. The art school and the famous Chorten Cora are both new and nearby. Return to Trashigang in the evening. Overnight in a hotel in Tashigang.
After the morning meal, proceed back to Bumthang and lunch will be served on the way. Overnight at the hotel in Bumthang.
After strolling through Bumthang market, start the journey to Punakha where lunch would be served on the way at the one of the famous restaurants in Trongsa town. Short break at Wangduephodrang for tea and snacks, and then continue the journey to Punakha. Stay there for a night.
Enjoy a leisure time in Punakha in the morning. After lunch, drive to Paro and spend a night there.
